There is SO much inspiration to be found in the works and letters of George Bernard Shaw, that I can’t post all of them here. But I wanted to share a couple of my favourite ones relating to creativity:
“Life isn’t about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.”
I also want to share the following excerpt from a (very humorous) letter at the beginning of Man and Superman: a Comedy and Philosophy as it really resonated and, for me, also connects to creativity:
“This is the true joy in life, the being used for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one; the being thoroughly worn out before you are thrown on the scrap heap; the being a force of Nature instead of a feverish selfish little clod of ailments and grievances complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy. And also the only real tragedy in life is the being used by personally minded men for purposes which you recognize to be base.”
These quotes are amazing. But, I am not familiar with George Bernard Shaw. Tell me more about him.
Great sampling of Bernard Shaw, Laura, show-casing his penetrative insight and wisdom. He is easily the most quoted writer after Shakespeare, and is known around the world for his brilliant wit; he famously quipped, when asked how he managed to be so humorous and witty, attributing it to merely stating the truth. In other words, to be humorous for him was to be brutally true in his statements; he was also ahead of his time in his philosophy of miscegenation and eugenics. Indeed, Ireland is truly blessed with a fascinating terrain and great minds such as Shaw, Yeats, and many others…best wishes.. Raj.
Wonderful Quotes Laura.. Yes what we think we create.. Here’s to our Imagination and creating love in the world x
Being thoroughly worn out – sounds a bit bleak, and yet I really dig the significance.
