We are bombarded with images of what a few in the higher echelons of big business say beauty is, on a daily basis. They feed the lie that if you do not match this limited representation of the human form, you are not beautiful.
These damaging lies strip away at the self-esteem of millions of women, men, boys and girls every single day. No matter what their appearance is- whether in keeping with these dictates or not- there are millions of people feeling like they don’t measure up. Feeling they are not beautiful.
The beauty that is spoken about in ads and magazines, and perpetuated through all modern media, is NOT true beauty. Real beauty goes beyond a surface image. Beauty is something you feel, it touches your soul and it is absolutely present within us ALL.
“Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it.”
Confucius
It is vital we tune into the beauty of ourselves every day. To acknowledge the amazing wonder that is our bodies- the innate wisdom held within, the ability to move and dance, to sing and laugh, to form connections with others…
One way to tune into the beauty within, can be to spend time in nature, acknowledging the myriad of beauty there and feeling your connection to it.
“Youth is happy because it has the capacity to see beauty. Anyone who keeps the ability to see beauty never grows old.”
Franz Kafka
Walking around a forest, you can’t help but appreciate the beautiful trees, wild flowers, birds, wildlife, grass, weeds, soil… all of it: SO incredibly beautiful.
The fact that there is life and growth is in itself a miracle. We humans are a miracle.
To tune into this beauty of nature and beauty of ourselves is essential.
We need to value and love ourselves in order to grow to our fullest potential. Understanding what true beauty is, and that it is within every single organism on this beautiful planet of ours, is a powerful place to start.
“Beauty awakens the soul to act.”
Dante Alighieri
This month’s meditation can be used as an inspiration for your practice. I recorded the soundscape out my apartment window; even here, in a bustling city like Berlin, the beauty of nature can be heard and accessed- we just have to be open to finding it.
I suggest you put on headphones, lie down on your yoga mat or bed and allow yourself to be transported to whatever beautiful scene reveals itself to you.
I hope you are all having a truly beautiful June and you are remembering to be kind and loving towards yourself!
With love and light,

I took this week’s photos when I was on the stunningly beautiful Rügen Island off the north of Germany- if you are looking for inspirational nature, it is well worth the visit!
“Beauty awakens the soul to act.” – an interesting quote I think, because for me, beauty is something that I feel, not something that I see. I find myself having a very physical experience, something tight in my chest I suppose, almost as if it moves me.
Oh, what a lovely description! YES! I totally agree, beauty is something we feel and does indeed move us. Thanks for the comment Jay!
And by the way – you were right. 7 foot caveman. Thanks for playing along, and for being such a good and sunny sport.
Wonderful Post.. I have been tuning into beauty all week… 🙂 one doesn’t have to go far in nature to see it surrounds us every which way we turn.. All we need do is open our eyes.. Thank you for the meditation.. 🙂

Very well written, Laura, touching upon major aspects of beauty, which is both a matter of form and spirit, and the feeling it evokes on the beholder. While beauty of form is short-lived, that of the inner spirit and its impact on the experiencer is what lasts the ravages of time and refines the world. Suggest that you also go through my post ‘A Thing of Beauty…’, on which your feedback is kindly solicited….best wishes.. Raj.
