Cameron Russell: Looks aren’t everything. Believe me, I’m a model

This is an incredibly engaging, honest and thought-provoking talk from Cameron Russell. She has worked as a model since a young age and gives a very witty yet powerful talk about the images of beauty as projected by the media.

“Image is powerful but also image is superficial”

She shows us the incredible differences between the pictures we see in magazines and the ‘real life’ version of these models.

“These pictures are not pictures of me, they are constructions”

I found it really inspiring, I hope you do too!

Cameron Russell admits she won “a genetic lottery”: she’s tall, pretty and an underwear model. But don’t judge her by her looks. In this fearless talk, she takes a wry look at the industry that had her looking highly seductive at barely 16 years old.

Thank you for this share… Yes we are brought up in a world where we are conditioned that beauty is best.. And so many are caught within the media image that depicts perfection..
    Many thanks for sharing

What is beauty? It really is a subjective thing, in the eye of the beholder.
What ever you are conditioned to believe is beautiful is your perception of beauty. To me beauty is truth rather than deception, do not be deceived by the media and advertising.
Your thoughts paint your picture of beauty let them come from real experience
Beauty is subject to change and so is the eye of the beholder.

Absolutely, I agree the surface concept of beauty is in the eye of the beholder and what they are conditioned to see (and as my post today again touches on, unfortunately every human is at least in part conditioned by the media messaging). I think though, true beauty is something we feel rather than see. It reaches beyond even the most conditioned being. I like your thought that it is truth rather than deception- to me also it is Truth (with the capital ‘T’) and is all around us. Thanks for the comment, nice to ‘meet’ you!
