The theme for July here on Resounding Power is Gratitude.
There has been, and continues to be, a lot of research on how practicing gratitude in your daily life can have a hugely positive impact on your mental health and indeed in all areas of your life.
“Gratefulness is the key to a happy life that we hold in our hands, because if we are not grateful, then no matter how much we have, we will not be happy — because we will always want to have something else or something more.”
Brother David Steindl-Rast
When things are seemingly not going our way, it is very easy to go into feeling as though your life is lacking. In fact, the current culture ruling us in the west encourages us to constantly feel as though we are lacking- in who we are, what we look like, the material wealth we have…
It encourages us to look at all the things we don’t have and to talk ourselves into believing we need more- we need to achieve more, we need to be ‘more’ in order to be happy.
This attitude has led to a LOT of people feeling unworthy and dissatisfied in their lives.
“Reflect upon your present blessings, of which every man has plenty; not on your past misfortunes of which all men have some.”
Charles Dickens
Instead of focussing on areas you feel you are lacking- whether it be in your external relationships, your material wealth, parts of your life or indeed yourself- focus instead on all your positive attributes, your abilities, all the things and people you DO have in your life.
Give thanks every day for all the wonderful things in and about your life. Give thanks that you get to experience life! Pour energy into being grateful for all the wonderful things in your life and that expenditure of energy will never be wasteful.
“Both abundance and lack exist simultaneously in our lives, as parallel realities. It is always our conscious choice which secret garden we will tend… when we choose not to focus on what is missing from our lives but are grateful for the abundance that’s present — love, health, family, friends, work, the joys of nature and personal pursuits that bring us pleasure — the wasteland of illusion falls away and we experience Heaven on earth.”
Sarah Ban Breathnach
Throughout July, let’s all make gratitude our focus. I can tell you from experience that it is a powerful tool for positive living, why not try it and see if the research is true for you?!

This is a great topic. There is always much to be thankful for, and I admire everyone who knows it.
Thank you Jay!
