Just Breathe

As you can see, it has been a while since I last wrote here. I’ve been busy with many different adventures including running retreats at the beautiful Yoga Beach House in France and, very excitingly, releasing my LAIR EP.

I’m currently working on lots of music projects and it looks like the rest of the year is going to continue to unfold with music being my primary focus of expression and use of my creativity. So, I think my posts here will continue to be sporadic.

However, when my inbox starts getting filled with similar messages from people struggling with the common energy cycle we are all moving through, I always feel the want to post some thoughts or a message- really, always the message I want to convey is:

Simple and true!

I feel very lucky, through my interactions with so many people from so many places, to get to truly experience that the idea of cycles of energy patterns are very real and not just an idea those of us ‘actively growing our consciousness’ (for want of other words) have purported to be true. Although it has been very clear and a reality for me for many years now, I still get quite surprised by the deluge of messages I receive at certain times. Messages filled with common phrases and experiences- variations of the same story playing out at the same time in many places all over the world. Seeing is believing for our human brains, so when the energy gets as intense as it has over the past couple of weeks, it is definitely reassuring to see that it is not just me feeling it. That it is not just my story being affected. That something larger is in play and therefore truly knowing, as has repeatedly happened throughout life:

We are all feeling- and seeing and hearing from the incessant ‘news’- there is a lot going on on the world stage right now too. So much drama and noise is spewing out from all corners and it is difficult to disconnect from it. I feel we do all have a responsibility to be informed in the 3D goings on that affect us all but not to the detriment of health. Not to the detriment of the well-being of our minds, bodies and souls. It’s almost impossible to be informed and not at one time or another get caught up in the frenzy that is flowing around us right now. It is so challenging to ignore the negativity, bombastic speeches and screaming of opinions if you are actively living in the collective- which counts for the vast majority of us.

At a time where so many are looking out the way- in judgment, blame, anger, sadness, confusion etc- I feel it is so important to start drawing the attention back inwards. Back to Self.

Switch off the tv, social media, the political discussions with friends/family/strangers on the internet and instead JUST BREATHE.

Allow yourself to connect within and hear how the true you is doing; how you are being affected by those around you and where you need to pay more attention to your well-being.

  • Set aside time to journal and allow all the negative thoughts and feelings to come out in a safe way
  • Remember you are ultimately responsible for you and you alone- if you have people making demands on you that are not reasonable, separate yourself from them
  • Make sure to spend time grounding, to be in nature, to rest, to disconnect completely from the digital world for periods of time throughout the day, to meditate- to do all the self-care things we know to be helpful and supportive
  • Nourish your nervous system with kindness, love and care: Hold yourself as you would a baby. You ARE that important and deserving of love and compassion

Here is a short practice (just 12 minutes) to help calm the nervous system and to help reconnect you to a quiet space within. In it, I guide you through the practice of Sama Vritti, Equal Breathing. You can do it lying down or sitting- if you can do it in nature where you can feel the earth beneath you, even better! I have made it downloadable so you can take it with you wherever you go.

It can be done at any time and even as a sporadic practice it will be of benefit but I recommend committing to doing it at least once a day at the same time if possible for three weeks and see how you feel it fits into your life after that.

For those who follow my blog, you know that I am a champion of the healing qualities of music and it seems like there are many feeling the need for healing and soothing right now so I will leave you with the beautiful Pearl Jam and the gorgeous track Just Breathe for more inspiration!

Remember: You are not alone. We are all connected. You are loved.

With love and light,

Thanks for the reminders Laura. Nature and conscious breathing are two great ways to center and ground, as well as certain music. Hugs, Brad

Nice to see you, Laura, and tune in with your yogic musings. All that is external may indeed be moving as it should, which is not exactly under our control. Whereas what is happening within, falls within our regulatory powers, adjustable and tweakable through inner engineering that meditation truly is. May these prescriptions harmonise with your music to keep you creatively centred. Best…xx.

Hi Laura, it’s exciting and inspiring to read all that you are up to. I would love to join you on a retreat in France – one day! Thank you for the messages that this too shall pass and that we’re not alone in what many of us are feeling. And thank you for your healing presence on this blog and in this world! ❤ Aleya
